We are inviting you to our Online Symposium “Grounds for Change: Practical Pathways to Climate-Smart Coffee Regions” on November 5, 2026. The symposium will explore how the resilience of coffee-farming families is shaped by factors beyond the farm gate. By sharing practical experiences and lessons from the field, it will highlight pathways for strengthening climate adaptation across entire coffee-growing regions.

Why Look Beyond the Farm Gate?

Across coffee-growing regions, climate adaptation is often approached at farm level. Yet farmers are also affected by factors beyond their farms. Water availability, biodiversity, ecosystem health, land-use dynamics, local markets, and governance structures all influence whether adaptation efforts succeed or fall short.

This has led to growing interest in approaches that strengthen resilience not only on individual farms, but across the wider landscapes and systems on which coffee-farming families depend. Climate-Smart Coffee Regions offer one such approach. By bringing together farmers, cooperatives, companies, NGOs, public institutions, and other local actors around a shared vision, they seek to turn fragmented efforts into coordinated action.

From Concept to Implementation

But what does climate adaptation beyond the farm look like in practice? How can different actors work together to address challenges that no single farm can solve alone? And what conditions are needed for Climate-Smart Coffee Regions to succeed?

Through expert presentations, discussion, and audience Q&A, the symposium will explore these questions from multiple perspectives. Topics include climate risks beyond the farm level, biodiversity and resilient coffee landscapes, regional partnerships and governance, impact measurement, and financing models for landscape-scale adaptation.

Participants will also gain first-hand insights from the implementation of a Climate-Smart Coffee Region in western Honduras. From stakeholder engagement and the establishment of a Community of Practice to financing, monitoring, and learning, speakers will share practical experiences from turning the concept into action on the ground.
