From problem to tool

As the saying goes, there is a solution to every problem. When it comes to climate change and coffee production, the problem is rather complex. Local social, environmental and economic conditions and the specific coffee producing areas need to be considered.

This is why we engage farming households, farmer organizations and other partners in identifying local problems, and combine climate change science with proven farming methods and local expertise to reach the best possible solutions.

Location-specific Solutions

Once we identify suitable adaptation options together with farmers, we test them in the field, evaluating practices and approaches to learn from both successes and challenges. Only when we are confident that a solution works in the local context do we take the next step: systematizing it and scaling it up as a practical, applicable tool.

Over the years, many tools have been identified and validated through extensive research in collaboration with smallholder farmers and farmer organizations in seven major coffee-producing regions. And we won’t stop short here, we will continue our journey from problem to tool for climate-smart coffee farming.
