Closer to the Field: Small Improvements, Real Difference

The coffee&climate toolbox has always been about one thing: making climate‑smart practices usable in real life: on farms, in trainings, and in day‑to‑day advisory work. As the toolbox continues to grow, so does the diversity of people using it: farmers, extensionists, trainers, cooperatives, NGOs, and companies working across very different contexts and languages.

With more content comes a familiar challenge: how to quickly find what is relevant, without interrupting the work itself.

Recent updates focused on improving the way people navigate and use the toolbox, so that time is spent applying knowledge in the field rather than searching for it on a screen. The result is a set of improvements that make working with the c&c toolbox clearer, faster, and more flexible, especially for those using it regularly as part of their work.

From Searching to Applying – With Fewer Steps in Between

Whether you are exploring new adaptation practices, responding to a concrete field question, or preparing a training session, speed and clarity matter. You may know roughly what you are looking for, but not always where it sits in the toolbox structure.

To support this, the c&c toolbox now includes an improved search function that complements the existing category structure and ToolFinder.

With the new search bar, users can:

  • Ask questions or search using keywords, rather than navigating through multiple menus.
  • View results clearly grouped into tools, trainer tools, and other relevant pages.
  • Work consistently in their selected language, as search results are automatically filtered accordingly.
  • Access search easily, either via the icon in the header or through the navigation menu.

The aim is simple: less time searching, more time applying – whether that means looking for a specific practice, checking a step in the five‑step approach, or preparing materials for a workshop.

Keeping the toolbox Close – In the Field and on the Go

For many users, the toolbox is not an occasional reference, but a working tool. Farmers find solutions to their daily climate challenges there. Extensionists use it during field visits. Trainers rely on it when planning sessions. Project teams consult it when aligning approaches across regions.

To support this kind of use, the c&c toolbox is now also available as an Android app via the Google Play Store.

The app provides access to the full toolbox:

  • All tools and trainer materials.
  • Step‑by‑step guidance and videos.
  • The same structure and content as the web version.

It simply makes it more convenient to integrate the toolbox into daily routines. Climate‑smart coffee growing does not happen at a desk, and the toolbox is designed to reflect that reality.

The Trainer Section – Now in More Languages

One of the most widely used parts of the c&c toolbox is the Trainer Section – created specifically to support those who work directly with farming communities. It makes it easier for them to plan, conduct, and adapt trainings based on coffee&climate’s five‑step approach to climate change adaptation.

Each step offers:

  • Clear objectives.
  • Suggested workflows.
  • Supporting materials for field and group sessions.

The focus is not on theory, but on practical facilitation: helping farmers understand climate risks, identify suitable responses, and take informed decisions over time.

To make this content accessible to more users, the Trainer Section is now available in Swahili, Spanish, and Portuguese, in addition to English.

It is used by extensionists, farmer trainers, cooperatives, NGOs, and companies working directly with coffee farmers — and can be accessed via the toolbox dashboard or the ToolFinder.

Designed to Grow With its Users

None of these updates change the core of the c&c toolbox. Instead, they reflect what we hear again and again from users around the world: make it easier to find, easier to use, and easier to integrate into daily work.

As climate challenges for coffee continue to intensify, access to clear, practical, and field‑tested guidance becomes even more critical. The toolbox will keep growing – in content, in languages, and in usability – guided by the realities of those working in coffee farming.

If you are already using the c&c toolbox, we invite you to explore these improvements and see how they fit into your workflow. And if you work with others who could benefit, sharing the toolbox is one of the simplest ways to strengthen climate‑smart action across the coffee sector.
